No Politics, only Justice!

              "No Politics, Only Justice!

The incident at Kolkata Medical College is extremely reprehensible, and no amount of condemnation is enough. In a country where there is a push for women's empowerment and gender equality, the incident involving a female doctor at a reputed medical institution is truly unfortunate. Such incidents are demoralizing for doctors who are entrusted with the responsibility of healthcare. How can such an event occur at a top medical institution? Instead of politicizing the issue, there should be an impartial, thorough investigation, and the accused must receive the harshest punishment. Only then can such incidents be prevented in the future.

People in society should have a constant fear of the law. When this fear diminishes, such incidents happen. If we delve deeper, we realize that the country's deteriorating law and justice system is responsible. The accused no longer fear the law. No matter how serious the crime, they commit it with the confidence that they will escape unscathed. Of course, this confidence often stems from money, power, and political backing.

The accused in yesterday's incident likely didn't commit a crime for the first time. They must have gotten away with several crimes before. Their involvement in smaller crimes without getting caught or being acquitted leads them to commit bigger crimes. Only hardened criminals dare to commit such heinous acts. If they have the backing of a major political party, they roam around with the belief that the justice system is in their pocket.

The intoxication of wealth, power, dominance, and prestige is more potent than any other drug. People under this intoxication believe they can get away with any crime. The wealthy criminal hires an army of expensive, skilled lawyers in court. They use goons to intimidate the complainant, and instances of threats are common. Manipulating the law, they get acquitted within months. The experience of escaping the first case gives them the confidence to commit another major crime. This cycle becomes unending. Particularly, such hardened criminals eventually contest elections. In fact, they meet the criteria of some political parties. Ironically, such people receive party tickets. With religious, financial, and muscular support, they even get elected. Then, the very criminals who once roamed freely are seen leading a convoy of police cars with sirens blaring. This is a great tragedy.

Over the past 75 years, the country has undergone numerous changes—natural, social, economic, intellectual, and geographical. Science and technology have progressed so much that scientists are searching for other planets for human habitation. While the world has seen such changes, the outdated laws of our country remain unchanged. Even though the British have left long ago, the judicial system, rules, and laws from their era still persist.

It is not easy to get justice in the courts of this country. Everything depends on who the criminal is. And justice is not always served; sometimes 'desired justice' is sought instead. In many cases, 'Justice Buried' occurs to ensure 'Justice Hurried'. On the other hand, if 'Justice Delayed' happens due to continuous postponements, a judge favorable to one side is placed by transferring the original judge. At times, judges are openly threatened by using power, and this has happened in our country. This is why many leaders sitting in the Parliament today are out on bail. In short, people who should be in jail are sitting in the Parliament as representatives of the people. They discuss complex issues like the country's social, economic, administrative, and judicial systems. This is nothing short of a tragedy.

It is often said that 'the law is equal for everyone.' But in reality, it is not. A common thief who cannot afford to pay a lawyer's fee languishes in jail for years, while a seasoned criminal with multiple murders under their belt holds a ministerial position. Thus, it must be said, unfortunately, that justice depends on who the criminal is.

If we want to prevent incidents like the one in Kolkata from happening in the future, a thorough investigation must be conducted. Therefore, this matter should not be dragged into the political arena; it should be dealt with within the framework of the law, and the accused should receive severe punishment. Alongside this, there is a need to instill fear of the law among people. To achieve this, we must change along with the times. There is a need to overhaul the law and justice system. The outdated laws must be changed, and the pillar of the world's largest democracy needs to be further strengthened."
